    • Arvind Bhat and Aditi Mutatkar emerged winners of the 75th National badminton championship in the men’s and women’s category respectively at the MDU Indoor hall on 10 January 2011. Arvind defeated P. Kashyap 21-13, 21-17 to win the title. Aditi defeated Arundhati Pantawane 19-21, 23-21, 21-15 in 65 minutes to win her first ever National ladies title.

    • World champion Viswanathan Anand hit a career-high rating of 2810 in the latest world anking list released by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).     • Pakistan-Newzealand Test series: Pakistan won the series 2-0
    • Gurpal Singh of the Army won the 50-metre free pistol gold in the 54th National shooting championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad on 18 January 2011. He had earlier won bronze in the National Championship in Bangalore. Om Prakash overcame a three-point deficit to eventually clinch the silver. R.S. Rai, Viraj Singh, Kaikhusru Irani and Vijay Singh were the others to make the final and were placed fifth to eighth in that order.
